EP/J019704/1 - Feasibility of a wetting layer absorption carbon capture process based on chemical solvents

The 'wetting layer absorption' (WLA) process consists in using a porous material to support liquid-like regions of solvent to absorb the gas of interest. The project will investigate the use of the WLA process for carbon capture applications using physical and chemical solvents. The process should have a high capacity, high selectivity, and high rates of mass transfer, as well as a significant reduction of the use of toxic and corrosive solvents. Microwave regeneration is also investigated for the regeneration of the sorbent which should greatly reduce the regeneration costs for the sorbent.
