Vice President Yang Yongping met with guests from The University of Edinburgh

On November 7th 2011, Prof. Yongping Yang, Vice President of North China Electric Power University (NCEPU) met with Prof. Stefano Brandani and three other guests from The University of Edinburgh (UoE). Prof. Yang reviewed the cooperation in scientific research and education that has existed between UoE and NCEPU, and announced that both institutions have placed high importance to their active engagement and devotion to collaborating in the area of clean energy.

In October this year, NCEPU was honoured with the award of "Coal Conversion and Utilization Base (CCUB)" under the "Programme of Introducing Talents of Discipline to Universities" (shortened to "111 Project") by the Ministry of Education and the State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs, China. As an important partner of NCEPU, the carbon capture research group at the School of Engineering in the UoE, led by Prof. Stefano Brandani, has made a positive contribution to the early stages of the cooperation and declaration, especially to "FOCUS" (Fundamentals of Optimized Capture Using Solids) - a UK-China collaborative project funded by the EPSRC and NSFC. Prof. Yang also discussed with Prof. Brandani proposals for future development of the CCUB with involvement from the carbon capture research group at the UoE.

Prof. Stefano Brandani and his colleagues spoke highly of the substantial cooperation in research and education and agreed with Prof. Yang’s proposal for future collaborative efforts. Prof. Brandani highlighted the successful outcomes from cooperation that took place when NCEPU students first went to the UoE for overseas study in previous years.

After the meeting, Prof. Kai Zhang and his research group continued the exchange of ideas for furthering academic ties with Prof. Stefano Brandani and his colleagues. Prof. Yujiong Gu, Deputy Director of the School of Energy and Power Engineering; Lingling Xu, Vice Director of the International Cooperation Department and Chunming Duan, Deputy Director of the School of International Education were also present.
